Welcome to my shop, where quality & satisfaction is guaranteed. LAYAWAY plans available. All reasonable offers considered.
The overall dimensions of the box are: 12”long, 6 ½” wide & 5 ¼” deep.
The top opens to reveal light green silk lining, with two ornate pressed glass perfume bottles, which are in very usable condition. Both tops are rough around the edges from nicks and the original long daubers are missing, but both could be taken to a glass specialist to have them ground down. They are both marked on the bottom “E2”. The center portion of the box (which measures 6 ¼” long, 5 ½” wide & 1 ½” deep) was probably used to store hair items or jewelry. The top held a hand mirror at one time. The silk lining is in excellent condition for its age; the silk has separated at the hinges & their is very minor discoloration. There are no odors inside or out. The bottom drawer swings open to reveal a gorgeous, ornate brush. There is a very slight area of the silk lining (approx. 1” long/wide) that is frayed, which is underneath where the brush is stored. The brush has very detailed graphics of a sailing ship, waves, a lighthouse and a bird. The entire front/back has an overall tree branch design. There is definitely a lot going on, which is in true Victorian fashion. The bristles are very soft, but I did notice a crack in the midst of the bristles. This does not go through to the top and in no way does it detract from the brush. There is very small writing on the back of the handle, possibly a maker’s mark, but I cannot make it out.
This is definitely a must-have for anyone who loves fine Victorian antiques, and it’s a wonderful example of what the very wealthy Victorian ladies would travel with.
