The front is signed: Clarence F. Underwood, C. (for copyright) Brett Litho Co., N.Y. Some background on the artist: Clarence F. Underwood (1871-1929) was born in Jamestown, NY. He did some studying in Paris, but returned to work illustrating postcards, magazines & for the Saturday Evening Post.
What really makes this a rare find is it retains its original black ostrich feather.
The condition is amazing, considering its over 100 years old. All the edges show minor wear/scrapes, and just a few areas of minor stains. The bottom of the box has stains and is dirty, as seen in the photo. The black feather is perfect.
The dimensions of the box are: 13 long, 10 ½ wide & 2 deep. The feather is approximately 19 long.
The box alone makes a beautiful display, but having the original feather included is a rare find.
