A nice CDV of General John Logan CDV. Logan fought in the Mexican War as a second lieutenant of Illinois volunteers. He went into politics after the Mexican War. Logan fought at the battle of Manassas as a volunteer in a Michigan regiment, returned to Illinois and raised the 31st Illinois Infantry, of which he was made colonel. He was promoted to brigadier general in March 21, 1862. On March 13, 1863 he was promoted to Major General. Logan was awarded the Medal of Honor at Vicksburg. He fought with Sherman until the end of the war. After the war he helped establish various veterans' societies especially the Grand Army of the Republic. He served in the US Senate and had an unsuccessful run for the Vice Presidency in 1884.
