Antique Handbag Justin Leather Goods Purse Compact Mirror 1900’s

This wonderful antique designer handbag was made by the Justin Leather Goods Company as stamped inside. The patent date located on both sides of both clasps is 10-5-15. The bag is about 5 ½” x 5 ¾”. The strap is 10” long or 5” on each side.

Overall the purse is in excellent condition with what I would consider very minor wear for a bag of this age. The inside of the strap has one little piece of leather stitching that has come loose but that piece is there and could easily be mended.

Chocolate brown is the main color with beautiful tooling, a swirled like pattern at the center. The sides are more honey colored in a snake like pattern. All the hand stitching is intact. A little line of green corrosion is on the front from the clasp.

The elaborate frame has a pattern of diamonds. There is a triangular shaped locking clasp that you twist to open up the purse. There are some sporadic greening places.

The bag has a brown suede lining with 2 pouches and has little to no wear. There is a small area of green stain which I’m sure is from the frame and would think it could be cleaned if it bothered you.

The handbag has its original mirror that slips into one of the inside pouches. As you can see from the photo is has lost some of its silver but amazingly it is at least still there and not broken or cracked. It is covered in leather on one side.

The purse is in perfect shape for carrying if you like. I personally love the patina it has developed over the years. I have not attempted to clean it in any way as I want to pass it on in its original found condition.

Nouveau or Deco handbags are all the rage and this one is a beauty. I can just see a Victorian lady strolling down the street with this little purse on her arm. I have so enjoyed having it and I would think lovers of antique bags or ladies accessories would consider this one “very collectible”.
