LET'S MAKE A DEAL! Delightful Fun Unique Hard to Find Vintage Goodies from Times Past and Considered "Very Collectible"
This young woman wears a ballroom or prom type gown being very full and floor length. The bottom of the dress is a turquoise blue color and about 6" at the widest point. The dress cover or “lace” is white and scalloped along the bottom. Little gold dots trim the lace edge, the neckline and the opening of the gloves. There is a baby blue ribbon tied around the waist. Decorative raised blue flowers are along the shoulders of the sleeveless gown and every delicate petal is there with no nicks whatsoever.
A little gold shoe peeks out from under the dress. She has on white gloves. One hand touches her dress at the side and when you turn her around and around, she gives you the illusion that she is dancing. The other hand rests on her cheek. She has auburn red hair and a blue flower covers one ear. She has blue eyes and burgundy lipstick.
I have done much research on this piece and if I am correct, I believe this figural lady to be representative of a young girl, a Rainbow Girl, of the Order of the Eastern Star; an organization like the Mason’s or Masonic’s. I have found where Carol Mae Jensen, one of the signers, was a charter member of the Vallejo Assembly in 1925 and Grand Love in 1931. She became the Worthy Grand Matron in 1963. She was the first Rainbow Girl to become a Worthy Grand Matron. As you can see, her name is front and center of the dress. The other signatures are more than likely other members of the order.
There are 16 signatures scripted in gold on the lace covering or apron of the dress. All names, except for one, include a city in California. The signature of Carol Jensen lists her as the Associate Grand Matron. All the lettering is perfect and strong, not washed out like in the photos where there is much glare: Carol Jensen, Associate Grand Matron; Greta Hudson, Holly Vista; Dolores Ross, Wil Brea; Della Ashby, Wilshire; Goldie Rahkola, Columbia; Pearl Libsack, Palms; Marion Malone, Ocean Park; Lucille Partington, Cluver City; Elma Jones, Westlake; Agnes Jones, Santa Monica; Evalyn Spring, Palisades; Patty Burke, Beverly Hills; Ruth Doling, E.B. Wheeler; Vi Dunlap, Westwood Hills; Dolly Higginbotham, Triangle and Florence Stevens, Hollywood
My research could be completely off as to what the signatures and the teenager are representing. Perhaps the signatures are those that played a role in the making of this piece. Regardless, this sweet sixteen gal is a beautiful example of the great pieces from the 60’s and I do believe her to be very rare. Vintage items such as this continue to rise in value every day and are “very collectible”.
