This vintage D&E Juliana brooch has a little bit of everything in its design including transparent and AB finish chatons, ombre’ art glass stones, special-effect stones, and unique gold-plated leaf findings. The bountiful leaf is 2 ¾" long and 2 1/8" wide. The foiled rhinestones come in light amethyst, peridot AB, amethyst AB and light blue (the 12mm chaton). The large-table marquise stones are misty lavender with mauve tones (rather like saphiret) and have scalloped side facets. The large oval stones have diamond sunburst facets and shade in hue from clue to emerald green. There are three light green AB marquises with "corn cob" impressed designs. And there is one opaque mint green pear with molded raised diamonds and an iridescent finish.

The scalloped edge leaf findings have Florentine textured bodies and smooth polished rims. Quite a dazzling mix! The stone finishes are all intact and there are no chips in any of them; under magnification you may see a few pinpoint dark specs on the bottoms of the green ovals and scalloped-edge marquises. Each stone is prong-set and the brooch has a safety clasp pin. This has been confirmed as Juliana by several long-time D&E collectors and shows the solder puddles and unusual stones typical of their work. The mix of stones shapes, surfaces, and colors; small mounds of solder; and the design construction confirm the attribution. The brooch has excellent gold-plate finish and no damage to the stones.

This explosive Juliana brooch blends well with blue and green tones but really pops against purple or reddish hues that contrast with the dominant colors and highlight the AB amethyst and scalloped marquises. Have fun wearing it with a rainbow of tops!
