SALE French Ladies Hand Fan - c 1900

Gilded Pierced wood sticks with three beautiful painted vignettes. A lady is in the garden with two other women looking on while she is reading a letter, we can only presume that is it a love letter as a man is waiting anxiously behind a tree, probably hoping for a favorable reply. The vignette on the left is a woman holding a small child. The vignette on the right has a woman with a young girl who is reading a book that is resting on the woman’s lap. The paper fan also has three beautiful vignettes. On the left side is a Ballet Dancer and the right side has a lady strolling in the garden with a fan held in her hand. The central vignette is quite unusual, a suitor is kissing a ladies hand while a man, probably her father, is leading her away. The Background on the fan is dark cobalt blue with gold decoration. The reverse of the fan has a painting of a bird and flowers on the sticks. There is a central vignette in the center of the fan however I think the other scenes have been over painted in black. I have taken pictures to show this and also I have taken this into consideration when pricing this Fan. Measures approximately 10 5/8” Long and 19” when fully opened.
