A very Unusual Match Safe. The two figures of a man & woman can be found on another more common match safe. The figures are a representation of THE STORM. This one is more difficult to find. The border is more interesting because the top figures are entwined Dolphins and the bottom border has two Griffons. The border is repeated on the reverse side, which has an advertisement for A. PRATO & CO. CAFE 189-191 BLEECKER ST. COR. MacDOUGAL NEW YORK According to the Sander's book POCKET MATCHSAFES - Page 151 "Relatively few food service establishments were advertised" Silver Plated Brass . Also in this book, on page 82 there is another version of The Storm and it is occasionally refered to as "Adam and Eve Leaving the Garden of Eden". Condition Fairly Good - some loss to the Silver Plate consistent with wear. Nice tight snap closing. Small fingernail dent on front top. Measures approximately 1 3/4" x 3".
