We now have in stock the new limited edition Victa Bunnykins DB479.
Items from the Royal Doulton Willow pattern Story series are not often seen and, additionally, this plate is a china body not an earthenware body. The pattern number is not shown but it would be E7211, E7831 or E7832. The earliest of these patterns was introduced in 1911 and the series withdrawn by 1945. We estimate this plate to be 1910’s vintage.
The decoration is in polychrome with hand painted enamel sections. The scene is of Chang and Koongshee on the island and is titled ‘Here they lived happily’ which is printed on the back of the plate. The border is the blue roses border.
10.25” (26.3cm) in diameter.
No chips, cracks or repairs. Clean crazing overall. There are some light knife scratches to the green enamel of Koongshee’s dress. On the back there are clear grains of sand or glaze under the glaze which would have occurred during production. There are 3 ‘chips’ in the foot rim. These are not damage but would have occurred in the glazing firing when the plate was removed from the glazing stilt after removal from the kiln.
