RARE Chanel Sautoir is here!!! ~ Plus, Christmas items coming in!
13mm X 20mm or 1/2" inch X 3/4" inch center pale yellow, translucent stone is fantastic. The elongated octagonal stone is flanked by closely set, pave set clear and sparkling rhinestones - all embedded in a subtly shiny, matte finish, gold tone setting. For added panache, the lower edge of the earrings are accented by a scroll of channel set, clear baguette rhinestones. This feature drops down close to 3/8" of an inch from the rectangular octagon.
The earrings are clearly hallmarked with the Sphinx cartouche and design number E2462. There is some wear to the gold tone on the back of the earrings and on the side edges of the scroll casement at the bottom of the earring. On the bottom of the scroll on one earring, there is a tiny chip to the metal. One earring has a minute bit of foil loss - on the crease deepest within the stone - but is only barely noticeable if within a range of 6-8 inches. I've mentioned all these flaws to be totally accurate, however, these flaws are not apparent and do not detract from these gorgeous earrings. The price has been adjusted to reflect that these earrings are not in perfect condition.
Bit O' History SPHINX (1948–2000): British company Sphinx made high quality jewelry. They made jewellery for many famous design houses, like Kenneth J. Lane, Saks Fifth Avenue, Butler & Wilson, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and others. I understand and also heard designer Henry Schreiner of Schreiner Jewelery Company, which began in 1939, also designed for Sphinx. . Their jewelry is becoming more and more collectable today, since the company ceased operations in 2000.
