To me, the color most resembles a reddish hot pink....but of course the color changes as you look at the stones from different angles and lighting situations. It is a bluish red, not an orange-y red. If you look good in jewel tone colors, this necklace is for you!
The marquis cascades are jointed in two places, just below the top marquis stones, and directly above the single marquis drop stone at the bottom. Each connecting link throughout the length of the necklace is adorned by a small, emerald cut baguette stone. The final touch is an array of small round chaton stones on the extender chain, finished off by a single marquis stone, which drips alluringly down the back of your neck.
The center stones drop 2" inches, and the smallest drop, 1" inch. The largest marquis stones in the center of the necklace measure 5/8" of an inch.
The extender chain makes this necklace adjustable from a minimum choker length of 14" inches to a drop below the nape of the neck length of 16" inches. The necklace is hallmarked "Trifari©" with the copyright symbol. Along with the dating of aurora borealis stones, this piece was made post-1955. Condition is excellent.
Bit O' History: Gustavo Trifari emigrated from Italy to the U.S. in 1904 and founded Trifari NYC in 1910. Gustavo’s grandfather Luigi Trifari, a goldsmith, had a small workshop in Naples, Italy in the mid 1800s producing fine jewelry where Gustavo, working in his workshop, learned the jewelry trade.
Trifari was considered one of the largest and best known producers of costume jewelry. The Trifari jewelry produced had a distinctive look, resembling fine jewelry, which can easily be recognized by collectors. Much of this is due to the work of a great designer, Alfred Philippe, who worked and designed jewelry for Trifari, for approximately 38 years, from 1930 to 1968, using high quality imported Swarovski rhinestones that were hand-set in the jewelry piece. Philippe worked as a designer of fine jewelry for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, and brought to Trifari many imaginative ideas. He is largely responsible for the creation and development of Trifari's distinctive and classic look.
