Bit O' History: CORO, COROCRAFT, VENDOME: Early 1900’s - Present Designers Emanuel Cohn and Gerard Rosenberg started their own shop in New York, founded in the early 1900’s, selling costume jewelry and accessories. They later became known as Coro. The name Coro incorporates the first two letters of their surnames – COhan and ROsenberg. They became very successful and very well known for their high quality designs and volume of jewelry at affordable prices. Coro made jewelry from 1920 until the 1970s. They produced jewelry under different company names: Vendome, Corocraft and Duette. Before Vendome, Corocraft was the high-end jewelry line of Coro since 1937. Corocraft often used sterling vermeil, rhinestones and enamel and produced some stunning designs. Coro ceased trading circ 1979. Coro Inc. in Canada is still in operation today.
