This is the famous Margot de Taxco sterling silver snake bracelet in shades of blue and green enamel. This Margot de Taxco design was first introduced in the early 1950's. In 1954, this design won first place in the national silver fair, Celebrated every year in Taxco, Mexico. The bracelet is hinged and riveted. It is for a small wrist measuring about 6 1/2"L X 1/2"W. Diameter across bracelet opening is It seems to have been originally this size as there are no signs of alterations. The bracelet is signed with the eagle mark MARGOT DE TAXCO and 5554.

This is one of Margot's most cherished designs; a wonderful confetti play of enamel colors encircle your wrist in this life-like snake rendition. Beautiful hand work and intricate enameling, along with the movement of the articulated segments, make this work of art a special collector's piece

Bit O' History: Many collectors believe Mexican jewelry is highly undervalued in price, especially the work of the women artists such as Margot van Voorhies Carr (Margot de Taxco), Matilde Poulat (whose work is marked MATL), and Ana Brillanti (whose work is marked Victoria).

An example of the influences of these female artists in the 30-40’s is on the shape of the bracelets. Before the work of Margot, Matilde and Ana, jewelry was designed by men and therefore, bracelets were shaped to a man’s wrist. These women not only changed the shape of Mexican jewelry, they made it more feminine in design.

Margot de Taxco pieces are highly collected and exhibit unique design and craftsmanship. She created many of the early designs for Los Castillo while married to Antonio Castillo, and later had several talented designers work for her including Miguel Melendez and Sigi Pineda.
