This gorgeous, combination classic and contemporary-style Doncaster designer necklace was formerly purchased at one of their couture trunk shows. The necklace features chunky rings in the chain, which alternate between smooth, shiny gold to a slightly carved, textured look. Just enough detail to make it more distinctive and pleasing to the eye. Circa early 1980's.

It is in pristine condition, with substantial 14K Gold plating. It has a shiny sheen to it that will brighten your face. Perfect for a transition from a business attire outfit to a night out on the town. Not to mention, a lovely complement to a blouse and jeans.

Necklace is 16 3/4" inches long, so on most women it will fall just below the nape of our neck. Links are 3/8" of an inch (little more than 1/2" of an inch) or 15 mm - and rings are about 1/8" of an inch or 3 mm thick.

Bit O' History: Tanner Companies, the parent company of Doncaster, got its start in 1931 as the Doncaster Collar and Shirt Company in Rutherfordton, NC. The founder, S.B. (Bobo) Tanner Jr., the son of a wealthy Southern textile manufacturer, and his wife Millie, named the company after the town of Doncaster, England, a favorite stop on their honeymoon tour.

The Doncaster business, as we know it today, evolved from an unexpected opportunity in 1935 that transformed the familiar shirt patterns of the Doncaster Collar and Shirt Company to the fashionable shirtwaist dress. It was a call from the Junior League of Charlotte that introduced the idea of selling these fashionable designs through their organization to raise funds for their various civic projects. Doncaster launched the original direct sales of high-end fashions, with the earliest dresses being sold through the women of the Junior League, an able and energetic sales force who were in contact with a large network of women. As women in other cities began to hear of these Doncaster fashions, mostly by word of mouth, the interest in wearing them and selling them spread quickly across the United States.

Today, Doncaster designers, based in New York City, develop four distinctive collections a year exclusively for Doncaster, using the very finest fabrics from around the world and drawing inspiration from both contemporary trends and timeless classics. Their exclusive jewelry line is also designed to complement their seasonal fashions. The Doncaster Foundation was set up to continue the work the Junior League women started – Each clothing hangtag carries a simple statement that tells a great story: "When you buy this garment, you help us support charities that make life better for women and families in communities worldwide."
