RARE Chanel Sautoir is here!!! ~ Plus, Christmas items coming in!
In my experience with Sphinx, I've always been impressed with the quality of their stones. For this, I look for Sphinx jewelry....and I own a few, too. The stones are just too fabulous! The gold plating is totally intact. This piece is really in minty condition. I'll have to say "Wow!" again here.
This simply stunning symbol of spirit and compassion measures 2" inches X 1 7/8" inches. The rotating clasp and pin are in perfect working order.
Hallmark: "SPHINX" in an oval cartouche, with a design number, a 5-digit number that I can't totally make out (Until I get my eyes checked - turning 40 this summer! Yikes!)
Bit O' History: The Sphinx Company (1948–2000), renowned for making quality costume jewelry was founded by S. Root in 1948 employing about 200-300 people in a factory in Cheswick, England. The jewelry produced was said to be well made, of high quality construction, beautifully designed, and had the look of real jewelry. Sphinx produced jewelry for Kenneth Jay Lane, Butler & Wilson, Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and other department stores (with some pieces unsigned for customers who wanted to sell the pieces on their own). Some of the Sphinx jewelry is highly collectible, depending on the make-up of the jewelry settings, stones and metal content. Sphinx ceased operations in 2000.
