This wonderful lady doll is a Simon & Halbig, mold #1159. Her bisque socket head is mint and perfect. Her original, fully-jointed composition LADY body is in superb condition for the age of the doll. She's an excellent example of this mold. She's 17" tall, and was manufactured in the early 1900’s by the German firm of Simon & Halbig. She’s signed on the back of her head, “1159, Germany, Simon & Halbig, S & H, 6.” The body is all original finish, and is stamped on the backside, “Heinrich Handwerck, Germany.” According to “Jan Foulke’s Guide to Dolls” the Handwerck lady body is a correct body for this doll. She has a pretty brunette wig. The wig is vintage, but probably not original. She’s beautifully dressed in antique clothing, and her shoes and stockings are factory original. Her wardrobe includes a 2-piece gown, matching bonnet, pantaloons, and half-slip. This is her detailed description:

HEAD: Her bisque socket head is PERFECT, with NO hairlines, chips, cracks or repairs. The bisque is high quality, with gorgeous coloring. She has working brown sleep eyes. When her eyes are closed, the eyelids only cover the eyes halfway. She has painted 'lower' eyelashes. Her eyebrows are molded & painted, with nice feathering. She has an open mouth with (4) tiny upper teeth. Her lips are beautifully painted. She has pierced ears with no chips, and her earrings are most likely original.

WIG: She’s wearing a vintage brunette wig with pretty curls. The wig was sold to me as her original wig. It's a nice wig, and has probably been with her for a long time, but I think it's a synthetic replacement. It looks great on her.

BODY: Her fully-jointed composition lady body is original and signed. The body has a defined bust and a slender waist, and is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees. The body is all original finish, and it’s in the best possible condition for an antique body. All fingers and toes are intact, and the toes still have the original red factory lines. There are a couple of chips at the hip joints, and a rub on her big toe. This is a great lady body.

CLOTHES: She’s dressed in beautiful antique clothes. Her shoes and stockings are factory original, and maybe her undies. Her 2-piece gown is mostly handstitched, and looks like it was made especially for her years ago. The jacket is a light green wool. It has a burgundy velvet inset bodice, collar, & cuffs. It also has burgundy decorative stitching. It closes in front with (5) little buttons. The matching green wool skirt has a band at the waist. The button closure in the back is missing, and the skirt is pinned shut. At the hem, there’s a wide burgundy velvet band, and a row of wide lace. The gown’s in nice condition overall. I see a tiny mend, a few little pinholes, and a couple of little fade spots. Overall, it’s very nice. The matching velvet-trimmed bonnet displays well, but has a lot of wear and fading. Her lovely white half-slip has a drawstring waist, and a pretty ruffle at the hem. There are a couple of pinholes in the back of the slip. Her white cotton pantaloons have a wide band at the waist, lace trim at the hem, and a button closure in back. The pantaloons are in great shape. She’s wearing her factory original shoes and stockings. The stockings are ecru fishnet-type anklets that are in nice condition. Her original ecru shoes are oilcloth slip-ons with a satin flower on each toe. The shoes are great, with a little wear.

A LOVELY S&H LADY!
