Excellent deck of cards made by Waddington c.1933, one of its “Barribal Series,” featuring a signed illustration by William Barribal, the famous British artist. Barribal designed backs for many Waddington decks in the 1920s and 1930s, in different series including this one, titled “Barribal Series,” which portrayed young women, usually dressed fashionably and striking sophisticated poses.

The deck has 52 cards, plus a standard Waddington Joker. The courts are those numbered W2.1 by Lodge, and the Ace of Spades is the standard Waddington Ace, numbered 3 by Lodge. The cards are bridge size, measuring 90mm x 59mm, with gold gilt around. They are in the original telescope box.

The cards are in excellent condition, very lightly used if at all, with almost all gold gilt intact. The inner box is in excellent condition, without issues and only slight signs of age and wear; the outer box is in very good condition, with some wear to the gold foil on the front and minor wear and light soiling generally.

References: Lodge, The Standard English Pattern, p.45, 51; W2.1, and 3.
