Rare Monogram Cribbage Board by Monogram Cribbage Board Co., c.1892. Monogram was a United States manufacturer of cribbage boards at the end of the 19th century. The company is known to have made three styles, all three are wooden with identical metal scrollwork. This particular board is made of oak, and the scrollwork is brass. The scrollwork includes wheels with numbers for scoring whist and perhaps euchre. Remarkably, the board has four original pegs. The pegs are housed in a compartment at one end of the board, and the compartment is sealed off by a metal cover that still attaches quite securely. The underside of the board is imprinted with the patent information: "Pat. Mar. 8. 92." The board measures 10.5" by 3.4" and is approximately .8" thick.

The board is in excellent condition. While it has the usual scratches associated with a 115 year old cribbage board, there are no cracks or chips anywhere. While the brass inlay has some tarnish, it is completely intact and quite bright given the age of the piece. I can see nothing to indicate that any attempt has been made to clean, polish, repair or restore the board; it looks to me to be all original.

Altogether a wonderful antique American cribbage board.

Thanks for visiting.
