Double Deck USPC “United States Lines” Maritime Playing Cards, S.S. United States, c.1950s

$35 USDDouble Deck USPC “United States Lines” Maritime Playing Cards, S.S. United States, c.1950s

Collectibles:Playing Cards Maritime:Uspc "United States Lines"
Mint, sealed (cards, not box) double deck of cards made by United States Playing Card Co. c.1950s for United States Lines, with backs featuring an illustration of what appears to the S.S. United States followed by an old clipper ship. The Joker that shows through the wrapper for each deck is an old Dougherty Joker, and is perhaps not as common as other USPC Jokers. Wikipedia has this to say about the S.S. United States: “The SS United States (also known as ‘The Big U’) is an ocean liner built in ...
Double Deck Speelkaarten Fabriek Nederland “Maritime” Playing Cards, c.1938

$145 USDDouble Deck Speelkaarten Fabriek Nederland “Maritime” Playing Cards, c.1938

Collectibles:Playing Cards Maritime:Speelkaarten Nederland "Maritime"
Exceptional double deck of “Maritime” cards made by Speelkaarten Fabriek Nederland c.1938, featuring the original designs of J. Verhoeven. The Aces are double ended but with different illustrations at either end; at one end are ships from the 17th and 18th centuries, and at the other end are ships from the 1930s, including the then flagship of the Holland America line, the SS Nieuw Amsterdam. The double ended court cards have the same illustration at either end. The Kings and Jacks depict ...
Arrco “Moore-McCormack” Playing Cards, SS Brasil/Argentina, c.1967

$25 USDArrco “Moore-McCormack” Playing Cards, SS Brasil/Argentina, c.1967

Collectibles:Playing Cards Maritime:"Moore Mccormack"
Mint, sealed (cards, not box) double deck of cards made by Arrco Playing Card Company for Moore-McCormack Lines, featuring pictures of the SS Brasil and/or her twin sister ship, the SS Argentina, the last luxury liners to be built in the United States. The ships were operated by Moore-McCormack from 1958-1969, and since the cards have no tax stamps, it is likely that the cards date to the period 1965-1969. Through the cellophane it can be seen that a standard Arrco Joker is used, and it is ...
De La Rue “Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company” Playing Cards, R.M.S. Mongolia, c.1

$60 USDDe La Rue “Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company” Playing Cards, R.M.S. Mongolia, c.1930

Collectibles:Playing Cards Maritime:De La Rue "P&O"
Wonderful deck of maritime cards made by De La Rue c.1930 for the “Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company” (“P&O”), featuring a beautiful illustration of the R.M.S. Mongolia (aka S.S. Mongolia) with Gibraltar in the background, and a special ace of Spades made for P&O. The R.M.S. Mongolia was operated under that name for P&O from 1923-1938, and because the deck includes a backed contract bridge scoring card, it should probably not be dated prior to 1930. The deck has 52 cards, with the ...
"Compagnie Générale Transatlantique" Playing Cards, Maker Unknown, c.1940

$40 USD"Compagnie Générale Transatlantique" Playing Cards, Maker Unknown, c.1940

Collectibles:Playing Cards Maritime:"Ctg"
Excellent deck of cards, manufacturer unknown, made for Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, c.1940. The backs of the cards bear what presumably was the then logo of the company, that includes a depiction of the famous S.S. Normandie ocean liner, suggesting a date after the launch of that ship in 1932 and before its demise in 1946. There is a $.01 U.S. tax stamp (1940-1965) and so it seems that the cards date to the early 1940s. There are 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a backed blank card. The ...
Goodall "Cunard Line" Playing Cards, “RMS Aquitania” Ocean Liner, c.1930

$40 USDGoodall "Cunard Line" Playing Cards, “RMS Aquitania” Ocean Liner, c.1930

Collectibles:Playing Cards Maritime:"Cunard"
Fine deck of cards made by Chas. Goodall & Son, c.1930, for Cunard Lines. The backs of the cards depict an artist’s rendering of the famous RMS Aquitania, the "Ship Beautiful,” against the then skyline of New York City. The Aquitania made regular runs between England and New York, and presumably the cards were given to passengers on the ship. By the time of this deck, Goodall had been absorbed into De La Rue for a number of years. The Goodall Ace of Spades includes what Lodge identifies as De La ...
