This ceramic biscuit jar (or cracker jar to us Americans) is pottery and slightly crazed. The glaze is shiny, the gold design a transfer, and the color hand-applied. The design of a lady gathering flowers is on two sides of the jar; two sides have flowers and a birdbath. The gold is slightly worn around the top of the jar. The frame and handle of the jar are silver plate and marked "EPNS" (electroplated nickel silver). This charming piece is marked "Sandland Ware, Lancaster & Sandland Ltd, Hanley, Staffordshire, England" on the bottom. It probably dates from around 1920. The jar is in excellent condition.
