This interesting and unusual costume brooch dates from the 1930's. It features a horse and jockey, a hunting dog, and a golfer under glass bubbles. The life-like colored figures (the golfer is in a 1930's outfit) have a three-dimensional look. The metal is gold-filled. There are no marks. The pin is in perfect condition. It measures 2 1/2" long X 1" wide X 3/8" thick.

This tiny butterfly from Aksel Holmsen of Norway is sterling silver with a gold wash. The wings are green guilloche enamel; the body is white enamel; the tiny eyes are black. The antennae are not enameled. This pin measures 1" across the wingspan by 1/2" high. The wings lift a bit, allowing the enamel to catch the light. There is a C-catch rather than a safety; this is an older (pre-World War II) pin. This pin is in excellent condition.

This classic six-pointed star brooch dates from around 1890. It has a very primitive reverse safety catch; it is one of the earliest that I have seen. The long hinge and projecting pin bar of Victorian brooches are present. This pin features rose-cut garnets in two layers. The bezel-set garnets are all intact and in good condition. The setting is base metal but may be polished to look like gold. It is 1 1/2" in diameter and 5/16" thick.

This nineteenth-century flow blue plate from William Adams and Co., England is in the Oriental-looking "Fairy Villas" pattern. The plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, stains, or crazing. There are knife marks on the surface; this plate was used at some point in its life. It measures 9" in diameter and is 3/4" thick. The particular mark used dates it as after 1891.

This 1930's collectible framed motto measures 9 1/4" X 17" in its original frame. It is in excellent original condition. The cottage, birdbath, patio, and frame around Jesus are hand colored on the back of the glass. The sparkly areas are caused by foil behind the glass, showing through clear areas in the design.

This jaunty 1940's sailor pin has been cut with a jigsaw from soft pine. The sailor's face and clothing have been depicted with paint; black, yellow and white. Then the front of the pin was lacquered. The pin bar is glued to the back; it is black plastic with a metal pin and reads "patent pending." The pin is 3" tall, 2 1/4" wide, and 3/8" thick. It is in perfect condition.

This lovely mesh purse has a hollow, repousse floral design on the frame, dating it from around 1900. The purse is 6" long and 4 1/2" wide with a 5" belt chain. It was designed to be held to one's belt with a belt clip. The chain is sterling silver as well as the frame, but the mesh, a slightly different color than the frame, is possibly not silver. The purse is in perfect condition. It is marked "Sterling W & D" on the inside of the frame. One side features an old-fashioned monogram "JMS."

This heavy, cast pin is beautifully finished by hand. The marks indicate a European country of origin, perhaps Italy or Austria. The simple safety catch is the style used between 1920 and World War II. There is the 800 mark, along with two other punch marks which remain unidentified, on the smoothly finished back. The pin is 2 1/2" long, 1" wide, and 3/16" thick. It has good weight and is in perfect condition.

This rose gold ring probably dates from around 1900, although there are no marks. Persian turquoise was popular in late Victorian times. The cabochon-cut turquoise stone is a beautiful, uniform color. The stone measures 3/8" X 3/16" X 1/8" high; it is in fine, but not perfect, condition with a bit of wear showing. The gold is smooth and polished; the mount is in excellent condition. There are no marks, but the gold tests 10K. The ring is a size 5 1/2.
