18" Pull-Toy 1890s French Papier-Mache Bulldog Nodds
Collectibles : Toys
Big, handsome and gruff, this all-original fully Papier-Mache French unmarked Bulldog pull-toy was made in France circa 1890. Standing 12" tall, 18" long and 8" at the widest, he is in excellent condition and works like the day he was made in Circa 1890. When the leash is pulled toward the back he opens his mouth, growls and bobs his head; the head will also bob when patted. (If the chain leash is pulled and secured with a pin through the chain, his mouth will stay slightly or all the way open). There is a wooden wheel inside each paw and he rolls along smoothly, bobbing his head, when pulled. Bulldog wears his original dry-grass ruff under an olive collar through which the chain leash runs inside to work the mouth & growler. Huge ears and big brown glass eyes, painted teeth and pink inside his mouth make him look so real! Flocked all over with snipped mohair, Bulldog is black and tan and his papier-mache is realistically molded with ribs showing at the sides. He is sturdy, stalwart, obviously brave and doesn't need be taken outside!!
