19” Costume FLAT-TOP CHINA c1870 Original Body

This flat-top china lady has a charming almost serious expression on her sweet face. She's in excellent condition wearing an 1870s prairie costume. Her perfect shoulderhead, incised 6, has finely painted facial features: watery blue eyes, black red upper lid lines, long single-stroke black brows, a solemn mouth with darker lip line, and plump rosy cheeks with a double chin. The deep shoulders measure 4 across while the shoulderhead is 4.5 tall with two sew holes front back with no markings. She has molded black hair in the “flat-top” style with large curls all around. Her firmly sawdust-stuffed cloth body has stitched joints at the shoulders and hips, and a wide flat bottom so she sits very well; old minor cloth repairs at elbows and knees. The china lower limbs have lovely hands and molded low-heeled black-glazed ankle boots. Her two-piece prairie dress has a blouse long skirt of double-pinks calico. Her underwear consists of fine cotton chemise, lace-hemmed petticoat and pantalets. A charming example of 1870s feminity!
