Magnificent, weighty, and favoring the ancient Persian-style coffee sets, this five-piece Romanesque medallion set is in excellent to mint condition with no damages or repairs. All pieces are marked: "Ball, Black & Co. // New York // English Sterling", made for the American market, this guarantees the quality of the silver. The pieces are fully round with tall necks, long or pointed spouts and graceful tall handles. A raised medallion centers each piece with a male or female profile on front, and superimposed monogram "AEF" on the backs, surrounded on both sides by beautifully engraved artistically stylized foliate designs. Around the tall neck is a band of inter-looped arrowheads, the spouts are engraved with scrolling, a 3-D Roman helmet tops the lids, and the geometric handles have beaded edges with a 3-D woman's head. Specifics of each piece listed below. Coffee pot: 10.5" high, 19.25" circumference; hinged lid, male profile; 910 grams. Tea Pot: 9.5" high, 19" circumference; hinged lid, female profile; 872 grams. Creamer: 7.75" high, 14.25" circumference; hinged lid, female profile; 340 grams; Covered Sugar: 8" high, 18.25" circumference; separate lid, male profile; 620 grams. Waste Bowl: 3.75" high, 18.5" circumference; vermeil-lined, male profile; 369 grams. This is the only piece engraved “April 24th 1867. From my calculations of adding the grams then dividing by 31.1 this set weights 100 ounces. So you can see that it is very heavy and extremely well made. Too gorgeous to pass up, one family owned, original family provenance is known. Please email us for additional pictures.
