10"Early c1840 STAFFORDSHIRE Man and Woman with Bird

Decorative and colorful three-dimensional Staffordshire figurines, circa 1840, are in near-mint condition with no crazing, no chips and no repairs. Both pieces are glazed and have clothing details in hand-painted over-glaze colors. The charming couple is dressed for a day in the country, each sitting on a tree stump with leafy vegetation around their bare feet. They both have curly brown hair, cobalt eyes, charcoal brows, rosy cheeks and dark-red mouths. The young man’s shirt has cobalt polka-dots; he wears a red sash and pink rolled-up pants. Sitting on his pale-blue jacket, the young man holds a colorful bird in one hand, and there’s an axe at his feet. His lady wears a floral-dotted over-dress and pink skirt, and has three palest-blue eggs in a tiny bird’s nest in her hands (there are two factory mold-pulls on the front of her base, a few small areas where the over-paint has flaked off, and the luster band around each base is mostly rubbed off). This sweet & enchanting pair of figurines makes a perfect vignette for the mantle or sideboard.
