Chinoiserie Sterling COFFEE POT Wilkerson 1837 England Henry Wilkerson, Chinese influence Figural FINIAL RARE RARE An ornate sterling silver coffee pot by Henry Wilkerson and Company, Sheffield, England. Clearly hallmarked with lion passant, the makers mark H W and Co in a quartrefoil, profile of monarch William IV, year letter of 1837, and city of Sheffield crown. The inverted pear shape is ornamented with a chased draped design around the top and bottom with more continuing onto the pedestal base. The applied spout has a matching design where it flows onto the body of the pot. The scrolled handle is ornamented with an overlapping chased leaf design with the center portion of the handle having ivory insulators. Hallmarks matching those on the bottom of the pot can be seen above the upper insulator. The lid fits into a flared scrolled lip edged with a leaf pattern. The raised center of the hinged lid is outlined with small flowers and leaves. Sitting proudly atop this wonderful coffee pot is a figural finial of a Chinese man wearing a conical hat and having a long braided queue down his back. He holds a pheasant on his uplifted arm. The figure is secured by a bolt and square nut with a loop attached to it. An elaborate monogram W O M is engraved on both sides of the pot. Weight is 975 grams. Measurements: 10 1/2" tall, outside width from handle to spout end 11", circumference at widest part 19 1/2", base is 5" across and the figural finial is 1 1/2" tall. All in excellent condition, except missing the pin below the insulator in the upper part of the handle. No dents, no scratches or repairs.
