This is a very unusual necklace - it could possibly be handmade. Look at it closely - it also has five stones set in it as well. We have had this piece since the mid-eighties but I believe it was old even then.

I have asked a few knowledgeable jewelry people who suggested it could have been made in the Middle East, possibly Persia or India.

It is made of metal, possible tin, with a link chain and old style clasp. The collar itself measures approximately 6" across and 4 1//2" deep without the chain which measures 6" from clasp to the edge of the collar.

There is a blackish patina to the metal which gives it a really old fashion look. However, you may be able to lighten it up with a cleaner and brush.

All in all, it is in excellent condition and very unusual. It would perfect with a sweater, high collar blouse or even a V neck style.
