Published by Grosset & Dunlap, NY, it has 235 pages that cover the Dog and its past starting with its prehistory, classification of the breeds, the Dog in literature, in art, in symbolism, the Dog and science: the morphology, anatmy and physiology, psycho-physiology, psychology, psychiatry and parapsychology; the Dog in the service of man: trained in specialized work; the Dog in the face of suffering and death; the Dog and medicine, the Ddog and the law.

Nearly every page is filled with great photos and illustrations. The author was a French veterinarian and bases his knowledge of the dog on thirty years of canine medicine, experimentation and disciplined psychological studies to construct a definitive picture of our friend the Dog.
