Submitted for your consideration is a charming porcelain figurine of two ballet partners from Rosenthal. This over one hundred-year-old company is well known for its keen interest in Modern Art that is manifested in their exquisite creations. Founded in 1889 in Selb Bavaria by Phillip Rosenthal, the company is still in existence today producing high quality dinnerware and beautiful figurines. According to Judith Miller in her Buyer’s Guide to Ceramic Figures: “Rosenthal work is relatively underrated; it is probably the nearest equivalent to Meissen but is far more affordable.” We agree with Ms. Miller and believe that this makes for incredible bargains for collectors as well as for anyone else looking to enrich their home with beautiful artwork. Please note how the artist has captured a moment in the team’s performance. The figures rest upon a pedestal. The young woman has placed her head in her partners lap. The young man, dressed as a harlequin, looks lovingly down at her, his gaze transfixed by her beauty. The serenity of the work is enhanced by the artist’s use of pastel colors to depict the couple. The artwork measures 8” in length and it is 5” tall. Its condition is excellent. The only slight flaw is a tiny chip at the base as shown in the photographs. This defect is invisible unless the figurine is raised and is only mentioned for the sake of accuracy. We can offer this aesthetic creation for $650.00.
