19th Century French Framed Intaglio

Submitted for your consideration is a 19th century French intaglio encased in a gilded frame. The piece is shown on velvet and the backing is made of the ornately decorated leather that was common to the era. This is a lovely work of art. The etched figurine is expertly crafted and the pink velvet upon which it is set enhances its bright red color. The frame is an artistic achievement in and of itself. The bright gilt hue, the dark leather backing and the intricate designs that embellish the work all add to the overall effect for the viewer.

This item measures 4” by 4” and it is in very good condition with only some minor wear related to its age. The frame has a loop so that the intaglio may by hung on a wall, but it would be equally impressive if it were place on a stand and displayed in a cabinet or on a shelf.
