Dedicated to Finding Value as well as Beauty!
Submitted for your consideration is a large Chinese Mud Man Lamp from the 1930s. Mud figures primarily come from the pottery centers of the Shiwan area in Guangdong Province as well as other regions of China. Mud figures are somewhat primitive and are glazed in vibrant blue, green, purple, yellow, red, and pearly white to name a few. Mud figures all were handmade from light, dark or reddish clay. Since they were all handmade, no two figures are ever the same.
This is a marvelous example of an art form that was often created for a utilitarian purpose. The figure sports a long white beard and has the wisdom of age etched into his features. His robe is a rich yellow color, accents by equally rich tones of green and blue. In his hand he holds an offering, a blue orb decorated with a gilt leaf. The lamp measures 34” in height, from the base to the top of the finial. The lamp is in working condition with the figure in very good shape with age appropriate wear and the shade marred by spots as shown in the photograph. This is a striking lamp and it can be had for $450.00.
