Louis Icart Signed Print “Fishing”

Submitted for your consideration is a whimsical art print by Louis Icart (1888-1950) of two Art Deco period ladies sitting on a sofa, amused as a pet cat is trying to figure out how to obtain the contents of a rather large fishbowl. The print is entitled “Fishing” and it was created in 1923. A World War I veteran, Icart was captivated by fashion and his works very much exemplify the period where ladies fashion moved from the embellished coverings of the 19th century to much more form flattering designs. He was immensely popular both in America and in Europe and his prints have commanded high prices at auctions on both continents.

This is a particularly lovely example of this wonderful artist’s work. Please note the way he has captured the beauty of the women, a blond and a brunette, accentuating their attractiveness by adorning their forms with stylish garments. The cat is charming, although less so to the fish than he is to us! The print measures 24” by 18” and the framed work measures 36” by 30”. The print bears a printed signature in the lower right hand corner and the image is in an oval format. There is an embossed oval over the signature. The piece is gallery framed with an inner gilt wood border; the print is in excellent condition while the frame shows some minor signs of wear.
