Submitted for your consideration is a beautiful etching of a seductive nude in a sensual pose by Warren Davis. Warren Davis (1865-1928) was an artist, an illustrator and painter who studied at the Art Students League of New York. He specialized in charcoal, etching, oil, and pastel paintings of ethereal and idealized female figures. Influenced by the Art Nouveau style and modern dance figures Loie Fuller and Isadora Duncan, he depicted women as dancing muses, nymphs, and goddesses scantily draped in fine transparent fabrics that swirl and billow in the wind around them. His designs graced the covers of Vanity Fair from 1916 through 1926.

This marvelous work is a splendid example of this talented artist’s genre and it is the third of a series of three etchings that we acquired. Please note the grace and beauty that Davis has imbued into this wonderful drawing. The solitary female figure is drawn in a classic form with her body resting upon her extended arms and her legs crossed into a restful posture. Her head is slightly turned to one side and in her posture we sense that she is in a playful mood. As with all of Davis’ drawings we are drawn to a mystical sensuality when viewing this outstanding work of art. The work is still in its original frame and the print is in very good condition with a crease as shown in the photographs while the frame has seen better days. There is a break in the glass in the left hand corner of the artwork as shown and there is a age related wear to the wood as well.

We have seen a similar etching by this master artist sell for over $1000.00 at a recent auction in a major house, but we can offer this original artist proof work of art for $625.00. The buyer may wish to examine RL-5389, and RL-5390, which are two other Davis etchings.
