Submitted for your consideration is a remarkable bronze sculpture of two pheasants guarding their nest eggs by an artist who was called the “Michelangelo of the Menagerie.” Antoine Louis Barye (1796-1875) was the father of the school of artists known as the French Animaliers School of sculpture. His works are highly collectable and they are represented in scores of famous museums, including the Louver, and the Metropolitan museum of art.

Please note the endearing nature of this wonderful composition. The pair of pheasants is shown guarding their nest of eggs. One, the father is standing on a rock; his posture is a protective stance. He appears to be on alert, trying to ascertain if there are any predators lurking about. The second bird is shown leaning into the nest, making certain that her eggs have not been disturbed. The detail of this piece is outstanding. The long tails of the birds, the depiction of their feathered clad bodies, the romantic subject matter all conspire to create a true work of art.

The statue measures 8” in height by nearly 10” in length and it is in excellent condition. The artist name is engraved into the base as shown in the photographs. We have seen scores of Barye bronzes sell well over $10,000 but we can offer this amazing example of a talented artist at his best for only $1850.00.
