English Hunting Print “The Surrey Foxhounds, 1824” by Dean Wolstenholme

Submitted for your consideration is a wonderful hunting print: The Surrey Foxhounds, 1824 by the noted sporting artist Dean Wolstenholme (1757-1837). Wolstenholme was generally recognized as one of the top artist of hunting scenes of this day as witnessed by the fact that he frequently exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1803 until his death.

This is a striking print from this master artist. The print captures the hunt in progress. A group of hunters, all garbed in the traditional dress of sportsman, are gathered at a beautiful ridge of lush green trees and a gorgeous cascading waterfall. Some of the men are on horseback, while others have dismounted. The dogs are seen gathered together, no doubt trying to pick up the prey’s scent. Please note how Wolstenholme has depicted the beautiful blue sky, the multihued vegetation of the ridge and the bright colors of the hunters clothing. What an impression this print would make if hung in a den or in an office. In fact, it is so skillfully created that it might well reside on the wall of a living or family room. The print is in excellent condition and it is double matted and well presented in a wooden frame. The print measures 17” by 13”, and the framed piece measures 33” by 29”. The frame is in very good condition with the exception on one nick to the wood as shown in the photographs. We are offering this striking work, for $550.00
