Submitted for your consideration is an ornately designed cast iron Bradley and Hubbard Dresser beveled glass mirror with a brass finish. Bradley & Hubbard began in Meriden, Connecticut as a partnership of Nathaniel Bradley and Walter Hubbard in 1854. Initially they produced decorative clocks, vases, mirrors and other decorative metal objects. B&H products are always excellent examples of their genres and consistently command higher prices than those of their closest competitors (like Chase, Jennings Bros, Connecticut Foundry, LV Aronson, etc.). Further, their values are escalating significantly faster than comparable pieces. Large collections of this company’s works are shown in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.
This lovely work has the head of a bearded figure, perhaps Bacchus on the top of the frame. The design is a series of reticulates vines or grape leaves with a solid insert that surrounds the actual mirror. This 19th century work is in excellent condition and still has the original O Ring in the back so that the mirror could be hung on a wall. The glass, which is original to the work, has a number of blemishes as demonstrated in the photographs. The mirror measures 15” by 9.5” and it can be had for $375.00.
