Antique Pair of Signed Hand Painted Georgian Oil on Bone Portraits in Period Frames

Submitted for your consideration is an exquisite pair of early 19th century portraits, one after the work of George Romney and the other after the work of Francois Gerard. They are oil painting on bone in their original frames. These are truly lovely works of art. Each portrait is signed and measures 5.5” by 4”. The framed pieces measure 7.5” by 6”. As you can see, these are much larger than the usual miniature items that typify this genre and as such are much harder to find and more valuable.

Each of the aristocratic ladies is quite beautiful. One is attired in a formal dress, with a tiara and an ornate necklace, while the other is depicted at rest, in nightdress. The frames are works of art in and of themselves. They are formed by identical rectangles of ivory with a floral design. The metal that surrounds each frame is decorated with tiny pearls, an elegant yet simple design.

The portraits are in excellent condition with no nicks or scratches. The frames are in very good condition with each frame missing one tiny pearl. These pieces would make a most impressive display on a desk, on a dresser or end table in a bedroom, or on a shelf in a china cabinet. They are available as a pair for $2250.00.
