Dedicated to Finding Value as well as Beauty!
Submitted for your consideration is an enchanting 19th Century Currier and Ives print of a smartly attired young girl and a tiny mouse. Nathaniel Currier and James Ives were the most famous and arguably the finest American printmakers of the nineteenth century. Their works are highly collectable and are often replicated. This print comes from their own shop and was completed under their supervision.
Please note how the artist has captured the essence of a startled expression on this beautiful young girls face. Her eyes are wide open as her gaze is turned toward the tiny creature sitting on the table before her. Her book, which appears to be a missal, is clasped in her small hands and is raised toward her full lovely lips. Her outfit befits a child of the aristocracy. An ensemble that includes a wool trimmed, ruffled bonnet, and a cape like coat. Her protagonist has his eyes fixed upon the treats before him, and he seems to be oblivious to the havoc he is wreaking with the child.
This print was created at the Currier and Ives print shop at 125 Nassau Street in New York City. The talented printmakers occupied that shop from 1872 until 1874 and so this copy derives from that period. The image size of this unframed work of art is 15” by 11”. It is in good condition with some age related spotting and wears. The image is in black and white and would be a gorgeous addition to any room in a house but especially in a child’s bedroom. This unframed print offers one the opportunity to matte and frame it in the colors that the buyer chooses and can be had for $50.00.
