Submitted for your consideration is a grouping of four individual oval shaped, miniature, hand colored dry point etchings of fashionable Victorian era ladies from the Ohio Art Company. The images are affixed to a hardwood board in a horizontal progression. These etchings appear to be the work of the artist John Hare Knowles who worked for this company ca.1920. Knowles was a major illustrator who created covers for such popular magazines as The Saturday Evening Post, and Country Gentleman. He was known for his portraits of young women.
Please note the intricate details of each small portrait. The ladies on the ends are wearing elaborate bonnets, while the two in the middle have lovely flowers in their hair. All four of the women are shown with a different bouquet of beautiful blossoms. Each image is encased in a golden oval frame under clear plastic, is double matted, and measures 4.5” by 3.125”. The entire piece measures 16” by 7”. All of the images have the notation: “Ohio Art Co. Bryan, Ohio.” The artwork is in very good condition with only some minor age related wear. The back of the hardwood board is felt with a hook for wall hanging.
This item would make a most impressive display in an entrance way or on a bedroom wall. Thanks to a savvy purchase, we can offer this charming work for $225.00.
