Dedicated to Finding Value as well as Beauty!
An artist known as Rempel designed this particular piece in 1937, and this version was made around that same time period. As far as I can tell, this is the only piece that this sculptor did for Rosenthal. If this is indeed his only work, what a masterpiece it is. Please consider how he has captured the very essence of the maternal instinct. The deer stands on a pedestal that is stained by splotches of green suggesting a wooded ground. She is bending over in a most protective fashion as her fawn suckles her mother’s milk. The deer is majestic, her form a vision of power, her legs spry so as to suggest her swiftness. The fawn is a picture of innocence, her ears pulled back as she takes her nourishment, her coat spotted with charming white polka dots, her eyes intensely concentrating at her task at hand. The colors of this piece are naturalistic, the rich browns of the animals complemented by their dark hooves and eyes.
This is a nice sized model, measuring 7” x 3.5” 6”. The condition of the sculpture is excellent with no chips, cracks, scratches, crazing, hairlines or restorations. As you can see from one of our photos, the aforementioned Ms. Miller used this piece as an illustration of the value of Rosenthal in her book. She quotes a price of $700.00 but we can offer this piece for only $600.00.
