ITEM - Old South Pacific Tribal Carving - Men in Dugout Boat. Clearly all handcarved. I found this it in the attic of my house that is almost 200 years old, so I don't know how old it is. It measures 25" long and weighs 6.5 lbs. The wood is light, unstained, porous, and somewhat heavy for a porous wood. There are no signatures or marks. I showed it to an expert at the Peabody Museum at Yale. He told me he thought it was South Pacific, but he couldn't be more specific or give me an age. The boat has a face. There are 10 men in the boat facing opposite directions. Two of the men are holding the hair of the man in from of him. I am totally clueless about this symbolism.
If any EXPERTS out there can enlighten me, please do!
CONDITION - Overall good condition. There are some surface scuffs, and a natural crack on the face. No repairs or breaks.
