ITEM - c.1860 Antique PAIR Faux Bois Transfer Ironstone Teapots. Neither are marked. I have some people tell me these are American and some tell me they are English. I couldn't say as one I bought in CT with MA provenance dating back to 1874, and the other I bought in England. Regardless, it is obvious that they were made by the same maker because the transfer pattern is so similar. Both have a luster finish which is what gives them the golden tone. One is smaller than the other. Both have pewter lids that are different from each other. Here are the details of each:

1) 7.75" tall to top of lid. Interior crazing and staining, and crazing under handle. Transfer is on entire bottom. Provenance supplied, "From the parents' home of Frank Wallace Clapp, born Walpole MA 1874, died Norwich CT 1958. Used at table for guests". I see no chips or repairs. There is a darker line inside the bottom of the pot. I can not tell if this is a fine crack or simply a darker craze line.

2) 7.25" tall to top of lid. Overall fine crazing, staining on bottom and inside, and at spout. Transfer is not on the bottom. Repair to hing on lid, lid doesn't rest all the way down. Purchased in England. I see no chips, cracks or repairs.

It is really difficult to find information on faux bois transfer because it is not considered that popular of a pattern. I love it because it is so unusual. If any EXPERTS out there can enlighten me, please do!

CONDITION - See description above for more details.
