HUGE MOLINA Taxco Sterling Silver Starfish Brooch

The "Fish Maestro" is displaying his talent for design with yet another creature from the sea. Molina, who also used the initials SMM and the name D'Molina prior to 1979, is one of the few contemporary Mexican silversmiths who is doing high quality work.

When I visited Taxco last year, I was shocked to see that many of the new silver pieces were thin, lightweight items that were only marked Mexico 925. For the most part, even the registration numbers were not being used. The guy in the Los Ballesteros store kept wondering why I only wanted to brows his shelves with the "older" items.

Anywho, this is a brilliant design of 3 starfish... all 3 are different and finely detailed. This is a large piece of sterling silver, measuring 2.5 inches in each direction and weighing a whopping 25.7 grams! The hallmarks on the back are Molina's post-1979 registration number TM-90 along with MEX 925. There is also significant depth to this piece. Just take a look at the photos... I'll wait.
