I've always got my eyes open for nautical pieces since my dad was a sailor, and I found this to be an interesting piece.

Rich in details, this brooch depicts a viking ship at sea. The water has a dramatic appearance and the ship is sculpted in a layer behind the water for an excellent 3-dimensional scene. Although this brooch was made to look very old, it is actually of more recent lineage.

A very helpful person identified this as a Robert Allison piece from around the 1940's - 1950's. Possibly worn as a badge by Girl Guides.

I love the story behind this, and wonder why badges were made so that they have such an old appearance. I had another badge in my shop that appeared equally old, but was from the 1970's.

At any rate, this is an excellent addition to your collection!
