Thurs. Jan. 8, Ring in the New Year With a New Ring! Many Rings Being Added This Week!!
You've always admired the non-jewelry Mexican sterling items, but aren't sure that you want to go down that path. Well, now is the time to stop thinking about it and just take the chance...dive in...be adventurous...think "Thelma and Louise" without driving the car off the cliff.
This is the perfect opportunity to sample the beautiful pieces you've been admiring, especially all the ones in my shop, without spending too much.
This is a beautifully handcrafted set of sterling silver cordials from Mexico. The Eagle mark is 47 and appears to be a design that would date these pieces to between 1955 and 1965. The Eagle Symbol is stamped at the top of each sterling piece and the base of the sterling has the artist hallmark S.N.R. and 925 inside a STERLING HECHO EN MEXICO circle. This artist is noted in Hougart's book on Mexican Silver Hallmarks. The Eagle 47 was used by by only 3 artists: ART (I also have some stemware by ART in my store) S.N.R. and Los Ballesteros.
The sterling section is 3.5 inches tall, 1.4 inches in diameter at the base and 1.2 inches in diameter at the top. Because of the natural variation in handmade pieces, the extent to which the glass inserts extend to the bottom is variable, but the height of the sterling is the same.
The design is a beautiful floral, leaf and stem pattern. They could use an additional polishing...A great gift for yourself or a very unique gift to go along with that special bottle for that special couple. Get them to open it while you're there, and "look!", there's and extra glass for you! Or give away 2 and keep one for yourself.
Most folks who buy and sell these items don't realize that if you go to Taxco, Mexico and look in the silver shops, which are as common as the air-brush painted t-shirt shops in Gatlinburg, these pieces sell for over $100 each, brand new. I've been to Taxco recently and was amazed at how expensive they were.
The vintage items are much more valuable, but since the market is a bit flooded with them right now, the prices have been driven down. Soooo....what I'm trying to say, in an extremely verbose manner, is these are excellent investments. Buy them a few at a time, and before you know it, you will have a collection worth well...a lot more than you paid.
E-mail me for volume discounts on multiple sterling stemware sets in my store, in case you are beyond dipping your toe in the shallow water and ready to jump off the high dive. Amen.
