OLD and EXQUISITE! Sterling Silver & Horn Taxco Bird Earrings

From the early days of Mexico's silver history come these stunning earrings, hand wrought from sterling silver and horn. Birds in flight are set against a backdrop that is the shape of a crescent moon, or perhaps a solar eclipse. With the light shining through, these earrings look phenomenal.

They are in excellent condition, with only minor surface wear that is consistent with age. These are true left-right earrings, so you can wear them with the birds facing towards you or away from you. Lightweight and comfortable, they measure 1.2 inches high and 1 inch wide (from beak to tail feather).

Hallmarks are on the screwback and are partially obscured, but I can read STERLING TAXCO 925. There appears to be an additional hallmark in the center that was covered by the sterling pin that holds the birds securely in place.
