Victorian Sterling Stamp Holder - Chatelaine Piece

This stamp case is in excellent condition. The lid opens easily and is free of dents or bends. It has an embossed designed on both sides. It has "Sterling" marked on the lip edge on both sides.

These were used to hold postage stamps in the late 1800's and attached to the ladies chatelaine that was worn most often on her waistband. Postage stamps began in 1847 so the need for something to hold them was born. They were handy organizers of the day.

34mm x 24mm x 7mm. or approx (1 3/8" x 1" x 1/4") Not polished.
