Schoolgirl Needlework Band Sampler - Signed :"REBEKAH CVRTYS WAS BORN MAY THE 22, 1687 IN ST. PHILLIPS PARISH, SHE ENDED THIS ******R AVGVST THE 18, 1699" Note: the letters 'Sample' are missing from Sampler. Many intricate styles of stitching and embroidery. There is a burn hole at either end where a hot coal apparently was dropped on the folded sampler. A smaller burn is about 1/4 the way from the signed end. The sampler is stitched in silk on linen and has red, green, blue and shades of natural thread. With the exception of the burn holes it is in excellent condition and the fabric is stable. It is finished on both sides. There are flowers, geometric and zig-zag designs. It measures 7.5" wide and 43.25" long. The colors are bright, especially for its age, and does not appear to have ever been framed.

Item ID: 6052
