This is a large Schoolgirl sampler with many desirable figures and text. Centered at the top is a large tree with several different types of foliage and flowers. On either side of the tree are large peacock-like birds with crowns. Just underneath is the maker's name, Sarah Brown Ruddington. Below the name is a very well done verse. At the bottom are many figures. The largest at the left is a house with a fence and trees. There are numerous people, two black dogs, sheep, flying angels, potted plants, etc. The border has the appearance of a strawberry border but with stylized tulips instead of strawberries. The sampler is stitched with silk thread on linen and conservation mounted in an old gold toned frame of the period. The sampler measures 21"x 16.5" sight . Circa 1820

Item ID: 4129
