Showing traces of repairs on the underside (this piece was LOVED), this incredible Victorian Bohemian Garnet pin/brooch also does double duty as a locket. With an easy open rim at the back, all that's needed to complete this piece is a piece of hard celluloid or thin glass to protect inside contents.

The pin measures a large 1-3/4" x 1-1/2" approx. Metal appears to be silver that once was covered in a thin layer of carat gold. Safety catch at the back to hold the pinstem in place - added at a later date as the original would have been a c-catch. Oh, and there's also a pendant bale should the piece wish to be worn as a necklace.

NO STONES MISSING though there are signs of replacement stones due to a bit of glue residue in spots. All the replacement stones are period correct and match the others perfectly. A very good job I must say.

The beauty of this piece is unbelievable and hard to show in photographs. Taking pics of garnets is NOT the easiest thing to do. There are 5 layers to this piece and what the camera doesn't like is trying to focus on the piece. The layers "jam" the camera's logic and that's why some pics are better than others. But no one will be disappointed with this pin with its faceted rounds and ovals and open sectionwork in the center. You have to see to believe.

Stunning and with a new glassine - a piece that is not only high fashion but functional as a memory piece as well.
